The MDPB, Marrow Donor Program Belgium, consists of the MDPB registry, the actual registry, and the non-profit MDPB vzw/asbl organisation. The MDPB registry is responsible for managing the donor database, handling the administrative and financial aspects of the registry. MDPB vzw/asbl assumes a scientific and medical advisory role. For each donor an insuranceis subscribed by the Registry.
Core activities of the registry include management of the donor database:
- carrying out searches for Belgian and foreign patients,
- passing on all enquiries,
- coordinating the “flow” or “work-up” for a selected donor,
- the post-transplant follow-up of patient and donor.
Activities that apply to transplants with bone marrow stem cells, blood stem cells and umbilical cord blood stem cells.
